I’m Tim Johnson, a Fractional CTO who helps business leaders and engineering teams make thoughtful technology decisions and turn them into working solutions. I bring three decades of experience in software development and technology leadership, along with a practical understanding of what it takes to keep a business moving while its technology evolves.

My career has taken me through healthcare, financial technology, insurance, and freight logistics. I’ve built software, led teams across four continents, and been responsible for entire IT operations. Leading as many as 40 developers across seven teams has given me experience balancing business priorities with the time, resources, and support people need to do good work.

I’ve also been accountable for systems that people depend on for patient billing, employee timekeeping, and financial operations. That work has involved difficult decisions about reliability, privacy, compliance, and modernization. I bring that perspective to each engagement: understanding who depends on a system and what a change will mean for them is part of making a sound technical decision.

I stay close to the work myself. I’ve built and launched a mobile app for iOS and Android, and I use generative AI daily to work through complex coding problems. I’ve also helped an engineering team adopt AI and worked on voice response solutions to reduce manual effort. These experiences keep my advice grounded in the practical details of building and supporting software.

As your Fractional CTO, I start by listening - to your goals, your concerns, and the people doing the work. From there, I help clarify priorities, work through tradeoffs, and give your team direction they can act on. My aim is to become a trusted partner who understands your business and takes responsibility for helping it move forward.
